Downloading, Installing & Using the EM Template

To install the latest version of the EM Template, download the following file:

When you open the EM Template file in MS Word, the file will open as a new .doc or .docx file depending on the version of MS Word you are using and how it has been configured. Save the file with the file name you wish to use for your EM.

If you need to save the Template to a network server or document management system and have difficulties doing so, please contact your internal IT Department for assistance in the first instance.

Please note that the EM Template is not a template in the same manner as the SI Template - it is a Word Template file with customised styles but does not contain any macros as used in the SI Template. Users should therefore not have difficulties in installing and using the EM Template with their internal MS office installations.

The Guidance Notes contain instructions on how to use the EM Template Styles. If you require further assistance with using Styles please refer to MS Word Help.  Do not contact the SI Support Team regarding EM Template issues, they will not be able to assist. If you have issues which you cannot resolve for yourself, please email publishing.legislation@nationalarchives.gov.uk. If emailing with an EM Template usage query, please attach a copy of the EM document you require assistance with and any appropriate screenshots.
