The majority of UK SIs are drafted using the SI Template. The SI Template is a specilised drafting tool which allows users to easily structure and format their SI in a way that facilitates its publication in both print and electronic format. The SI Template needs to be used in conjunction with the legislation.gov.uk Publishing Validation Service.

Some SIs, which do not follow the normal structure or numbering scheme of a standard SI document, will need to be produced using a non-templated workflow. The non-templated workflow takes longer to produce an SI as it involves the typesetting and proofing of the SI document and attracts a higher publishing fee than the templated workflow. Users should contact the SI Support Team for advice about using the non-templated workflow at the earliest opportunity in the drafting process.
