Advanced Numbers

Requesting Advanced Numbers

Advanced numbers may be issued where:

  • one or more SRs cross refer to other SRs
  • an Explanatory Memorandum (EM) applies to multiple SRs

Advanced numbers may be issued in other circumstances at the discretion of the SPO, please check before submitting your request.  Advanced numbers are normally only approved for requests where the SR will be submitted for registration within 48 hours.

Advanced number requests are made using a simple online form which is accessed from the "Request Advanced Number" box -  the second box - on the Registration Landing page.  Simply tell us the SR title/s, number requirements (including any subsidiary numbers), date when you expect to send the SR/s for registration and the reason for your request.  You should always cite the Parliamentary Procedure that the SR is subject to when specifying the reason for the advance number request.

Once the request has been reviewed by the SPO, you will receive an email advising you of its approval and the numbers assigned or its rejection with the reasons why advanced numbers could not be approved.

Please ensure that you insert your advanced number into the SR document and any associated Explanatory Memorandum prior to submitting it for registration and onward publication.  Failure to do this will result in the SR being assigned another SR number by the legislation.gov.uk Publishing system.
