Urgent Handling

Requesting Urgent Registration and / or Expedited Publication

An SI should normally be available in the public domain via the legislation.gov.uk website immediately after being laid (where applicable) and before or on the day it comes into force.

Therefore, if an SI is due to be laid within 24 hours of submission and/or is coming into force within the next 48 hours then Departments should ensure that they contact the SI Registrar to obtain the appropriate code to allow the SI to be flagged for special handling.  This code is randomly generated on a daily basis so users must contact the SI Registrar on the day of submission.

Users should input the code on Step 2 (Upload Documents) of the registration journey.  To the right of the screen there is an "Important Information" box, simply click "yes" and input the code into the boxes provided – you do not need to press the enter key.  Providing you have entered the code correctly you will be advised that the code has been approved and you can then continue on the registration journey.   The next steps of the journey will show that your bundle has been flagged for special handling.

Please note: Expedited Publication refers to web PDF publication only.  It is not possible to expedite print publication of an Instrument.
